While we’re all trying to make India a better country to live in, we can’t deny that the ground reality is far from pleasant. Everyday women, children and even men are sexually assaulted and sadly, a huge chunk of these cases go unreported. The few times that they come to light, they make us think hard and long about the kind of society we’re living in. Recently, the 67-year-old principal of Telaiya Public School in Koderma, Jharkhand sexually assaulted a 7-year-old girl.
The incident occurred on November 29th when he took the child to the washroom where he stripped her and touched her inappropriately. The victim has identified the accused from pictures shown by the detectives.
The child was then admitted to SSKM Hospital where different tests were performed to confirm the alleged sexual assault on her. The report is awaited. After the incident, parents of other students held protests in front of the school gate today demanding immediate suspension of the accused teacher.
The worst part of this whole situation is the reaction the principal had to this incident. “Yes I did, but it wasn’t such a big mistake. There was no sexual intercourse. Let me be frank, I could not even have done it, I’m old now. It was an accident.”
The case has been registered under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
Crimes like these give us chills down our spines. We can’t even begin to understand the trauma the 7-year-old girl must have undergone. It’s disturbing that someone who is 67 years old doesn’t understand the gravity of the situation. It’s disheartening to see the future of our generations in the hands of such a callous principal. We hope that justice is served.
